GitOps with Argo CD · Module 03
Argo CD at Scale
Manage many applications and clusters: the app of apps pattern, ApplicationSets and generators, registering clusters, AppProjects as guard rails, and progressive delivery with Argo Rollouts.
What you will learn
- Bootstrap a cluster with an app of apps and manage Applications as files in Git
- Generate Applications with ApplicationSets (list, cluster, Git and matrix generators)
- Register clusters and restrict teams with AppProjects and sync windows
- Release with canary or blue-green using Argo Rollouts and metric analysis
Lessons
- The app of apps pattern
A root Application points at a folder of Application manifests, so one sync creates and manages every other app — and the Argo CD setup itself lives in Git.
- ApplicationSets and generators
An ApplicationSet uses a generator (list, cluster, Git, matrix) to produce parameters and stamps out one Application per set from a template.
- Multiple clusters and AppProjects
One Argo CD can deploy to many clusters registered as Secrets; AppProjects set the guard rails — which repos, clusters, namespaces and resource kinds a team may use.
- Progressive delivery with Argo Rollouts
Argo Rollouts replaces a Deployment with a Rollout that shifts traffic step by step (canary) or switches a preview stack (blue-green), and can roll back on bad metrics.
